Founded in 1957, Cal State Fullerton is the largest campus in the California State University system with over 45,000 students.
Cal State Fullerton was established in 1957 by act of the California Legislature and began classes in 1959. It is now the largest of the 23 campuses in the California State University system, with 45,863 students as of Fall 2025. The university is governed as part of the CSU system, which operates under a 25-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor, with individual campus presidents reporting to the system Chancellor.
The campus is known for its 26-acre Arboretum and Botanical Garden, opened on October 21, 1979, which houses a world-class living and historical plant collection that families visit year-round. The Titans athletic program competes in NCAA Division I within the Big West Conference and has won 12 national championships. Visitors tour the campus, attend sporting events, visit Pollak Library, explore the Arboretum, and take in campus events throughout the academic year.
